The defending champion is out. FC Erzgebirge lost to the fifth-division team, partly due to two controversial penalty kicks in the closing minutes.

The Saxony State Soccer Cup has delivered a major upset: FC Erzgebirge Aue, which was relegated from the third division and is the defending champion, was eliminated in the third round. The “Violets” lost 2–3 (1–1) to Oberliga club FC Eilenburg. Captain Tom Weiß (5th and 83rd minutes—penalty kick) and Alexander Vogel (80th minute—penalty kick) scored for the winners.

Tim Maciejewski (27th minute) managed to equalize at one point, while Bastian Strietzel (90+3) could only pull one back. The Regionalliga team’s elimination was not undeserved, even if both penalty kicks in the closing stages were controversial. The hosts were the more active team throughout the match, while the favorite disappointed across the board.
