The new head coach Markus Fiedler kicked off the new season with a long speech to the professionals of 1. FC Magdeburg. The successor to Christian Titz, who left for Hanover, got straight down to business with his professionals. The team had already started with the obligatory lactate tests last Wednesday. New signing Nick Meier and loan returnees Andi Hoti, Aleksa Marusic and Robert Leipertz were among those involved.
"We are all very excited and full of anticipation for the season," said Martin Geisthardt, commercial director at FCM, in an MDR interview. The renovations for the heated pitch on the training ground will start in August, Geisthardt confirmed, adding: "That should be completed in early or mid-December."
The FCM traditionally plays two test matches against partner clubs, this time in Burg and Dessau, before returning to Bad Wörishofen for the training camp from 2 to 10 July.
The Elbe club will then host first division side VfL Wolfsburg at the Avnet Arena on July 26 (3:30 p.m.) to round off their preparations. The first competitive match is then in the DFB Cup at third-division club 1. FC Saarbrücken. "That's one of the toughest draws we could have gotten. It will be a match of equals. 1. FC Saarbrücken is an ambitious third-division club that was only recently defeated in the relegation," said FCM sporting director Otmar Schork.
