"Not compelling enough": Dynamo lose in Darmstadt

Dynamo Dresden have nothing to play for in Darmstadt. The difference between the two teams lies above all in the attack.

To topple a league leader for the third time this season: that was Dynamo Dresden's hope before the game at SV Darmstadt 98. But nothing came of it. Despite an initially convincing performance, the promoted side lost 2-0 (0-1) in Hesse and are now in danger of dropping back to a relegation place on the seventh matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga.

Swede Isac Lidberg scored his seventh goal in the seventh game of the season for Darmstadt in the 37th minute. It took less than three minutes after the break for Scotland's Fraser Hornby (48') to make it 2-0. Dresden never recovered from that.

After that, Dresden no longer had much to offer the league leaders. Darmstadt now looked very confident and in control. Within three minutes, the attacking duo of Hornby (57) and Lidberg (60) failed twice more against goalkeeper Schreiber.

In the 2:1 win in Bielefeld and most recently in the 2:2 draw against Hannover 96, two top teams had already despaired of Dresden this season. This time, Dynamo remained too harmless.

The only good chance to score came in the fifth minute of stoppage time. The referee then blew the final whistle. "We weren't compelling enough in the final third today, not clean enough," said Stamm.
