Coach Ronny Thielemann is returning to 1. FC Magdeburg. The 52-year-old coach will become head coach of the U23s at the second-division soccer club, the club announced. Thielemann, who most recently worked as assistant coach of the U19s at RB Leipzig, succeeds Daniel Wölfel, who will remain with the team as assistant coach. "When filling the coaching position for our regional league team, it was particularly important for us to find someone who not only knows our club and its values, but also lives them and at the same time has already gained a wealth of experience in supporting and developing top talent," said FCM sporting director Peer Jaekel. The former midfielder Thielemann was even active as head coach at FCM in the 2011/2012 season. Before and after that, he worked for the Elbe club as an assistant coach and in the youth academy. He also gained experience at Erzgebirge Aue (U19), Hansa Rostock (assistant coach), FSV Zwickau (head coach) and Eintracht Braunschweig (assistant coach). Since August 2024, he has been assistant coach of RB's A-Juniors. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reservedThielemann was already FCM head coach
