The Golden Oval at the end of May will be a meeting of the world's best discus throwers. But German Olympic champions and world-class athletes will also be coming to Dresden.

The field of participants at the Golden Oval is becoming increasingly attractive. At the athletics meeting in Dresden's Heinz Steyer Stadium, Australia's Matthew Denny, the world's number one discus thrower, will compete against Steven Richter from LV 90 Erzgebirge. The 23-year-old from Saxony set his personal best of 74.00 meters three weeks ago in Ramona, USA. The 29-year-old Denny - number two in the all-time best list - had thrown the target four centimeters further.

"Matthew is a good guy, we get on really well together. I'm delighted that he's throwing in Dresden," said Richter. "As a Saxon, I am of course hoping for the home advantage."
