New safety standards, more than 250,000 expected visitors, and a Sachsenring specialist are the hallmarks of the only German Grand Prix on the Motorcycle World Championship calendar. Here's what fans can expect.

Without any German contenders, but with numerous innovations and a clear favorite, the Sachsenring welcomes the Motorcycle World Championship for the only Grand Prix on German soil. According to the organizer, ADAC, all new safety standards that have been in effect in MotoGP since the start of this season have been implemented. These include additional paved run-off areas at several turns, a deepened gravel trap at Turn 4, a new return route in the so-called “Omega,” and an additional Airfence barrier.

For the first time, the MotoGP grid will feature wider spacing between riders. The starting rows are now twelve meters apart instead of nine, and the lateral spacing has increased from three to four meters. The measure is intended to prevent rear-end collisions after the start. On the racing front, all eyes this weekend will be on Sachsenring specialist Marc Márquez. The Ducati rider is aiming for his tenth MotoGP victory on the circuit.

More than 250,000 spectators are expected.

The Sachsenring looks back on nearly 100 years of history. In recent years, attendance records have been broken regularly—and this time, too, more than 250,000 spectators are expected.

The fan culture surrounding the Grand Prix was added to Saxony’s State List of Intangible Cultural Heritage this spring. The goal is to have it included in the national registry by 2027.

The event’s patron is Saxony’s Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU). Before Sunday’s race (2:00 p.m.), Yvonne Catterfeld will sing the German national anthem.
