SC Magdeburg celebrates its Champions League victory with thousands of fans at the city's Alter Markt. Around six months after the Christmas market attack, some normality returns to the city.

The day after the triumph in the Handball Champions League, thousands of fans celebrated the SC Magdeburg team on the city hall balcony. Afterwards, players and coaches signed the city's Golden Book. It was the Magdeburg handball team's third triumph in the premier class after 2002 and 2023 and their tenth title win since coach Bennet Wiegert took office in 2015.

"It feels so good to see so many happy faces in our city and especially in front of the Old Town Hall," said Mayor Simone Borris. "Winning the most important handball competition in Europe once again is impressive."

Remembrance of the Christmas market attack

Six months after the attack on Magdeburg's Christmas market at the same location, thousands of SCM fans celebrated their heroes. Goalkeeper Nikola Portner was also touched by this. "Something terrible happened a few months ago and hopefully we can now celebrate a nice success there and be happy," the Swiss said immediately after the final victory against Füchse Berlin.

On December 19, an assassin raced through the Magdeburg Christmas market, killing six people and injuring hundreds more. SCM defender Antonio Serradilla also narrowly escaped the attack and was only one meter away from the perpetrator's vehicle.
