1. FC Lok Leipzig is playing for a return to professional soccer after more than 25 years. The champions of the Regionalliga-Nordost will face northern champions TSV Havelse on Sunday (1.30pm/MDR and Magentasport). The first meeting in Leipzig ended 1:1.
Lok, then known as VfB, were relegated from the Bundesliga 2 in 1998. After two bankruptcies (2000 and 2004), the club restarted in league eleven in 2004/2005. The club had already reached the relegation play-offs once before in June 2020, but failed to do so against SC Verl.
