Andrea Herzog has won the title in the single canoe Canadian at the European Canoe Slalom Championships in Tacen, Slovenia. The 24-year-old from Leipzig won on Sunday with a flawless run and a 3.80 second lead over Gabriele Satkova from the Czech Republic. Marjorie Delassus from France came third. "It really wasn't easy here because of the high water," said Herzog.
The 2019 and 2022 world champion had recently lost the internal Olympic qualifier for Paris to Elena Lilik from Augsburg by a wafer-thin margin on her home track in Markkleeberg. Now her first European title in the women's event is a small consolation.
In the men's event, her Leipzig club colleague Lennard Tuchscherer narrowly missed out on the final of the top twelve by 52 hundredths of a second in the absence of the German Olympic starters. Former world champion Franz Anton from Leipzig also lost valuable seconds in the difficult ice channel and had to console himself with 16th place.
The title fights in the whitewater channel of Tacen on the river Sava had to be postponed at short notice due to the heavy rainfall, as the water level had risen extremely. The competitions therefore started a day earlier and paused on Friday. In the kayak races on Saturday, only Annkatrin Plochmann made it to the final. The starter from SGV Nürnberg-Fürth came tenth.
