Defending champions SC Magdeburg have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League ahead of schedule. They beat Danish representative GOG 37:30 (17:15) in front of 6,240 spectators. Magdeburg's top scorer was Omar Ingi Magnusson with six goals. After eleven wins in eleven games, SCM now has 22 points and will duel with FC Barcelona (20) for group victory in the remaining three group games.
Both sides began with a lack of concentration in offense: The visitors missed five of their first seven attacks, while Magdeburg produced several technical errors (4:2/7). The home side built a four-goal lead, but repeatedly made mistakes in offense. The Danes took advantage of that to equalize (14:14/26). However, SCM still led by two goals at the break.
