Former international Ulf Kirsten spent three years with Dynamo Dresden in various roles. Now he is retiring.

Prominent departure from second-division soccer club Dynamo Dresden: Ulf Kirsten is ending his commitment as brand ambassador. The 60-year-old informed those responsible at the club that he did not wish to extend his contract, which was due to expire, at his own request. He had held this position since March 2025. Prior to that, he was the club's sporting advisor for two years.

"We regret Ulf's decision, but at the same time we can understand his reasons. Despite the distance from his home to Dresden, he has regularly made his way to support and positively represent our club over the past few years," said Dynamo CFO Stephan Zimmermann in a club statement.

Kirsten: Dynamo is on the right track

Kirsten emphasized in an interview with "Bild": 'For one thing, I am now sixty years old and the many journeys from my home in Bergisch Gladbach to Dresden and back have become really exhausting. I also think that Dynamo Dresden are now on the right track and have taken a very important step towards future success by staying in the league."

Kirsten played for Dynamo from 1979 to 1990. He scored 79 goals in 210 competitive matches. He won two championships and the cup three times with the Dresden club. He won the DFB Cup for Bayer Leverkusen and was top scorer in the Bundesliga three times.
