The SV Union Halle-Neustadt women's handball team has reached the second round of the DHB Cup. The Bundesliga players won 38:25 (19:14) at the third league team Frankfurter HC on Wednesday evening. Thus the team of the new coach Till Wiechers succeeded in the dress rehearsal before the Bundesliga start on September 9 at home against the HSG Bad Wildungen Vipers.
The biggest share in the success had Julia Niewiadomska (8/4), Helena Mikkelsen and Madeleine Östlund (6 each). For the hosts Vakare Damuleviciute (9) scored most of the goals.
Halle had a hard time for long stretches of the first half. The hosts were even ahead at 12:11 (20.). But still before the side change the Bundesligist with a 8:2-run on 19:14 initiated the turn. As the game wore on, the underdogs ran out of steam. The Hallenserinnen extended their lead continuously and celebrated a success deserved in the end also in this height.
