The Dresden SC women's volleyball team narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the European CEV Cup. After the narrow 2:3 defeat in the first leg, Alexander Waibl's charges also lost the second leg at Italian top team Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri 2:3 (13:25, 25:17, 26:28, 25:23, 12:15).
This means that no German women's team is now represented on the international stage. Chieri will face the Turkish team from Galatasaray Istanbul in the final.
In front of 2,060 spectators, the German runners-up once again put up a tough fight against the favorites, losing the third set unfortunately due to a line-up error. However, Alexander Waibl's charges never gave up and came back in the fourth set with great morale and determination.
Diagonal attacker Marta Levinska, who had not played so well in the first leg, proved to be an outstanding scorer this time with 33 points, repeatedly taking responsibility at crucial moments. In the end, the hosts had the edge in terms of individual quality and, above all, experience in the tie-break and converted their second match point to win after just under two hours.
