The Dresden SC women's volleyball team started the semi-finals of the CEV Cup with a defeat. The German runners-up lost their first match against the Italian top team from Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri '76 in their home arena after leading 2:0 in the set, ultimately losing 2:3 (25:23, 26:24, 14:25, 14:25, 10:15). Alexander Waibl's charges will therefore definitely need a clear victory in the second leg next Wednesday in Italy to force a decision in the golden set.
In front of 2,921 spectators, Dresden got off to a very focused start, were tactically well prepared and put their opponents under pressure with their tasks. They also attacked variably from a stable reception and the block was also stable. They even fended off three set points from their opponents in the final phase of the second set, showed strong nerves and won the second set themselves. However, the tide turned from the third set onwards. While the DSC ladies were unable to maintain their level and more mistakes crept in, the guests from Chieri found their rhythm better and better and now clearly showed their qualities.
