Wiesbaden (dpa/sn)—The women’s volleyball team from Dresdner SC had to put their dream of an eighth cup title in club history to rest after just the first round. Alexander Waibl’s team lost the round of 16 match against league rival VC Wiesbaden 2-3 (20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 8-15) after leading 2-1 in sets. In the first set, the Dresden women had already built a clear five-point lead in front of 1,247 spectators, but lost it due to reception problems. In the second set, they started off much stronger with solid blocking, then applied heavy pressure with their serves and consistently capitalized on their scoring opportunities. The third set remained closely contested until the very end. In crunch time, the Waibl team kept their composure and won the set. In the fourth set, however, too many unforced errors crept in on both the serve and the attack, sending the match to a tiebreaker, where Wiesbaden dominated from the start. After 115 minutes, the DSC’s defeat was sealed. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
