From village cafes to “Volxküche”: Projects that promote social cohesion are receiving the state’s Generations Award for their dedication.

Seven projects have been awarded the Free State of Saxony’s Generations Prize for their commitment to combating loneliness and promoting social cohesion. The winners were selected from a total of 115 applicants, according to the organizers.

Each award comes with a prize of 2,000 euros. Among the winning projects are the volunteer-run village café “Sohland lebt!” in Reichenbach (Görlitz District) and a school project to develop volunteer initiatives at the Jenaplan School in Raschau-Markersbach (Erzgebirge District). The weekly “Volxküche” at the “Alte Brauerei” Youth and Cultural Center in Annaberg-Buchholz (Erzgebirge district) received the “Special Prize for Loneliness.”

The Saxon Intergenerational Award is organized on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs. “Especially in times when loneliness is an issue for many people, such initiatives are incredibly valuable,” said Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping (SPD).
