Learning through play is the goal of an initiative that provides elementary schools in Germany with board games. Twelve elementary schools in Saxony are now receiving a game room.

In Saxony, twelve more elementary schools will receive a game room. The schools impressed the jury with their original and well-thought-out concepts for a game room, according to the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs in Dresden. The goal of the initiative is to promote traditional play in schools.

“Where there is play, there is joyful learning. The winning schools demonstrate how playful learning can be integrated into everyday school life,” emphasized Minister of Education Conrad Clemens (CDU). The association “Mehr Zeit für Kinder” (More Time for Children) launched the “Spielen macht Schule” (Play Sets a Precedent) initiative in 2007 in collaboration with the ZNL Transfer Center for Neuroscience and Learning.
