Journalist and former “Tagesschau” anchor Constantin Schreiber is set to represent Saxony in the Federal Assembly during the election of the new federal president. The BSW parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament nominated Schreiber as the fourth candidate on its list, which was published on Wednesday. Schreiber was one of the anchors of the 8:00 p.m. edition of “Tagesschau” from 2021 to 2025. In September 2025, he began his job as a “Global Reporter” for the Axel Springer media group. In July 2026, it was announced that he would be leaving the company by the end of the year. Most recently, the journalist stated that he intended to return to Arabic-language television. Twice a month, he will host “Islam Talk,” a program on the Egyptian channel Azhari TV. Schreiber has worked on Arabic-language television programs in the past. He has also written several books on Islam. The Federal Assembly will convene in Berlin on January 30, 2027, to select a successor to Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The CSU supports Ilse Aigner’s candidacy. Several influential CDU politicians have also since openly expressed their support for Aigner, including all three East German CDU state premiers.
