The salaries of the 120 members of the Saxon state parliament could rise again next year. This is according to a draft for corresponding changes to the Saxon parliamentary law, several newspapers reported on Friday. Currently, the income of members of parliament is based on a uniform basic diet of 7315.70 euros. In addition, they receive a tax-free lump sum for expenses. Depending on their place of residence, this is currently between 4054 euros and 5301 euros per month.
In previous years, parliamentary allowances and lump-sum expenses were also regularly adjusted to the general wage development in the Free State on April 1 of each year. The basis for this was a salary group for judges - R2 level 6. There are now also plans to raise the salary group to level 7. The associated increase of around 80 euros alone would raise the new official basic diet to 7396.16 euros per month. The state parliament confirmed the figures on request. The diet increase is regularly a point of contention in the public debate.
