Abolish the solidarity surcharge and inheritance tax, raise the basic tax-free allowance. The FDP has not been in the state parliament in Saxony since 2014 - now the party wants to score points with ideas for the tax system.

The FDP in Saxony has spoken out in favor of a comprehensive tax reform. The aim is to provide noticeable relief for citizens and businesses, it said at the state party conference in Leisnig in the district of Central Saxony. "People work every day - and in the end it's still not enough. Not because they do too little, but because the state takes too much. The problem is that it simply never gets enough," emphasized state chairman Matthias Schniebel.

In concrete terms, the FDP Saxony wants to raise the basic tax-free allowance to 20,000 euros. Those who earn little should no longer have to pay income tax at all. At the same time, the party is in favor of significantly simplifying the tax system - fewer exemptions, fewer special rules, less paperwork.

Solidarity tax and inheritance tax abolished, vehicle tax restructured

In addition, the solidarity surcharge should be completely abolished and inheritance tax abolished. Anyone who passes on a house or business to the next generation should not be asked to pay again, it was said. The party is also aiming to restructure vehicle taxation: instead of a flat-rate tax, a usage-based toll should be introduced. Those who rarely use their car would pay less. Those who drive a lot would pay more.

The FDP has not been represented in the Saxon state parliament since 2014 and only received 0.9 percent of the second votes in the 2024 state election.
