Saxony's new citizens: a particularly large number of Syrians, Russians and Ukrainians received a German passport in 2025

In Saxony, almost 5,200 people were granted German citizenship through naturalization last year. Compared to 2024, this represents an increase of 787 naturalizations (18 percent), according to the State Statistical Office. Syrians led the way with 1,801 naturalizations, followed by people from Russia (437) and Ukraine (291).
