The Saxon Refugee Council is worried about a Kurdish activist and writer. The man is being held in custody pending deportation in Dresden and has been on hunger strike for 41 days, the Refugee Council announced.
According to Left Party MP Juliane Nagel, he has lost a lot of weight and his organs are hurting. "The detention is highly questionable in view of his condition," she said after a visit. The Ministry of the Interior did not initially comment on the case.
According to the Refugee Council, the man had built up a stable life with a steady job in Germany over the past six years. He was arrested without prior notice. He was supposed to be deported to Turkey, where he would be detained again. "Under the conditions of detention pending deportation, a strong person who had rebuilt his life from the ground up became a person in acute suicidal crisis," criticized the Refugee Council.
