Green Party Leadership Wants to Focus on Improving Everyday Life

The leadership of the Saxon Greens wants to place a stronger focus on the everyday concerns of people in Saxony. ““We are committed to policies that tangibly improve people’s daily lives and secure the future,” said Co-Chair Coretta Storz ahead of the Greens’ state convention on Friday and Saturday in Bautzen. She added that the very purpose of politics is to solve people’s problems in the here and now by listening carefully and proposing concrete solutions. 

At the state convention, the co-chairs are submitting a key motion titled “It’s About You!” which participants will vote on Saturday. Storz said the motion was also prompted by the AfD’s results in the state elections held in recent weeks.

Social fare for the D-Ticket, heat protection, and better protection against violence

Among the specific issues listed in the key motion is affordable regional public transportation. A “Fair Ticket” as a social fare option for the Germany Ticket and an education ticket valid throughout Saxony are intended to provide tangible relief for low-income individuals and families. 

Following the hot summer, which according to estimates by the Robert Koch Institute claimed more than 16,000 lives in Germany, a statewide heat protection plan is also being called for. This includes air conditioning in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and daycare centers; free drinking water in public buildings; and better heat protection for workers.

Another focus is on feminist policy. In its main resolution, the executive board advocates for expanded protection against violence and free menstrual products. To combat loneliness—which affects people in rural areas more than in cities—plans include mobile community cafés and the establishment of community gardens, among other measures.
