The majority of residents in the Saxon town of Naunhof (Leipzig district) have voted against the construction of wind turbines in a referendum. The town should therefore use all legal options to prevent wind turbines from being erected in the municipality.
According to the town council, 2,405 people voted yes and thus against wind turbines. A total of 1,006 people voted no. According to the figures, the turnout was 47.8 percent. The required quorum of 1,783 votes was achieved.
"The results are to be regarded as provisional," it said. They will be determined after an examination by the election board on Monday. People who are eligible to vote in local elections were entitled to vote. They had to be at least 18 years old on the day of the vote and reside in the area of the municipality.
A referendum has the effect of a decision by the city council. According to the information provided, it can only be amended by a new referendum within three years.
