The Left Party in the Saxon state parliament is insisting on a fair distribution of the burden of the crisis. It is a matter of skimming off crisis profits and regulating markets, explained representatives of the left-wing parliamentary group during a debate in the state parliament: "Otherwise the hard-working people will pay the bill."
Left wants fair taxation
"We want to tax income, assets and inheritances fairly. That hurts no one, but helps everyone. Poverty and empty coffers only exist because private wealth is growing without limits," said parliamentary group leader Susanne Schaper. The wealth tax is a solution to many problems.
According to Schaper, bold steps are needed "so that only those who can cope with it pay". "The state must intervene more in markets. We want to reactivate the excess profits tax and increase it. Its main purpose is to show corporations: Crisis profits are not worthwhile. That puts a damper on prices."
