No candidate achieved an absolute majority in the first round of voting. The decision on the office of Lord Mayor in Freiberg will now be made in the second round.

The election of the next mayor of Freiberg must be decided in a second round. None of the five candidates received the necessary absolute majority in the first round of voting on Sunday after a preliminary count. Eligible voters in the city of around 41,000 inhabitants are now called to the second round of voting on October 26.

In the first round of voting, Philipp Preißler from the Free Voters received the most votes with 31.49 percent. He was followed almost equally by Christian Pudack (Freiberg for all, 21.41%), Jens Uhlemann (AfD, 20.51%) and Steve Ittershagen (CDU, 20.10%). The individual candidate Stefan Krinke received 6.49 percent of the vote.
