Three large asylum shelters in each of the three regions of Chemnitz, Leipzig and Dresden - that is the strategy of the Free State of Saxony. One of the facilities is to be located in Waldheim.

The Free State of Saxony plans to operate permanent accommodation for asylum seekers in Waldheim in central Saxony. The asylum home in the district of Massanei will have 500 places, the state administration announced. The property is already being used as municipal refugee accommodation. The state directorate wants to take it over and open it in the fall of 2025.

Saxony plans to provide 9,600 places for asylum seekers in the long term. Three larger accommodation facilities are planned in each of the three regions of Leipzig, Chemnitz and Dresden. In the Chemnitz region, there are already reception facilities in Schneeberg and Chemnitz. There are also three larger accommodation facilities in Leipzig. There are currently two in Dresden.

The state directorate is the central immigration authority for the Free State. It has announced an information event for residents in Waldheim as soon as the organizational questions regarding the planned accommodation have been clarified.
