Cracks, spalling, moisture - experts take a close look at the Augustus Bridge. There are minor traffic restrictions.

The Dresden Augustus Bridge will be inspected as planned from today. Until Friday, the experts will first examine the arches over the Elbe for cracks, spalling, defects and moisture penetration, as announced by the state capital. A so-called push boat and a cherry picker will be used so that the inspectors can get close enough to the bridge arches, facings and parapets.

Short-term detour in the coming week

Work on the arches over the Terassenufer and the Elbe cycle path will continue in the coming week. Traffic will therefore be temporarily diverted. There should be no restrictions for pedestrians and cyclists.

Scheduled inspection after general refurbishment

The Augustus Bridge, which is popular with tourists, connects the New and Old Towns. It leads directly to the Dresden Residence Palace and the Brühl Terraces. It is one of the oldest Elbe crossings in Saxony: the first stone arch bridge was built there in the 13th century and the current structure was completed in 1910.

Damage caused by the floods in 2013 made a general renovation necessary. The work lasted from 2017 to 2022. The current inspection is scheduled to be carried out before the warranty for this construction work expires.
