To cope with the rising numbers of refugees, Saxony's Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping is calling for the re-establishment of an "Asylum Steering Committee" as in 2015/16. This joint body of the Free State and municipalities have proven themselves at the time, the SPD politician announced on Friday. "It is incomprehensible to me why this body was not reintroduced long ago." She herself had already suggested this in the government last November. The municipalities and the Free State were facing immense challenges; all stakeholders had to work together to find solutions.
