There has been serious unrest in Iran in recent days. A first federal state now no longer wants to deport people there. What is Saxony's stance on this?

In view of the situation in Iran, the Free State of Saxony is calling for a unified approach to deportations to the country. "Saxony is striving for a coordinated approach," said a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior. The Federal Ministry of the Interior has not yet coordinated this with the interior ministries of the federal states.

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate had previously announced its own three-month ban on deportations to the country. The move was justified by a dramatic deterioration in the situation in Iran.

Since the end of last year, there have been protests in Iran calling for an end to the Islamic Republic. According to human rights activists, at least 3,400 demonstrators are said to have been killed in the meantime.

A person was deported to Iran from Saxony last year, the ministry spokesperson explained. No further cases are currently pending a decision.
