The CDU in Saxony plans to meet in Lichtenwalde near Chemnitz at the weekend to discuss the next steps in forming a new government in the state. After the Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) alliance broke off the exploratory talks last Wednesday and prefers to play politics in opposition, the CDU/CSU finds itself in a difficult situation. As things stand, its only option is a minority government, in which it is dependent on other parliamentary parties.
In addition to the state parliamentary group, the state executive committee of the Saxon CDU/CSU is also meeting at Lichtenwalde Castle.
CDU Minister President Michael Kretschmer confirmed on Thursday on the "X" platform that he wanted to form a government capable of taking action. He did not specify how he intends to do this. He emphasized that his benchmark is that the country and its people come first.
