Protest Against a Possible Deportation Flight to Afghanistan

Resistance is mounting in Leipzig against a possible deportation flight to Afghanistan. An anti-racist coalition in the trade fair city called for protests today at the Leipzig Airport S-Bahn station and on Tuesday in downtown Leipzig. The activists expect a deportation via a charter flight to take place from Leipzig/Halle Airport half an hour after midnight on Tuesday. There was initially no official confirmation of this from the authorities.

Activists sharply criticize cooperation with the Taliban

“These deportations can only take place because of the federal government’s dirty backroom deals with the Taliban,” explained coalition spokesperson Luca Müller. Any cooperation with the inhumane and misogynistic Taliban must be ended immediately. “While Islamist violence in connection with the Berlin CSD is being condemned from all sides, the federal government is supporting the Islamist Taliban with its deals.”

Saxony’s Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) had welcomed the expanded options for deporting rejected asylum seekers to Afghanistan the previous week. “We have so far focused on serious offenders, but due to the persistence of this issue, we will now expand the scope to include all offenders as well as those required to leave the country who have not yet demonstrated any effort toward integration, are receiving social benefits, or are not cooperating in the process of establishing their identity,” Schuster said.
