NATO has rejected Russia’s claim that the military alliance doubts Germany’s findings regarding the discovery of an explosive-laden drone at the Leipzig/Halle Airport. “The Russian intelligence service’s claim that NATO found no evidence of Russian involvement in the drone incident in Leipzig is absurd,” a spokesperson said in response to a query from the German Press Agency. NATO intelligence experts, like Germany, have concluded that Russia was behind the hybrid attack on August 4. “Russia has demonstrably tried time and again to destabilize allied states and dissuade us from supporting Ukraine,” the alliance spokesperson added. Russia’s reckless actions are dangerous, he said, but NATO will not be deterred from continuing to support Ukraine. In a message from the Russian Foreign Ministry circulated via X, it had previously been stated, citing the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, that according to NATO intelligence, there is no evidence of Russian involvement in the Leipzig incident, and the findings instead point to a “Ukrainian connection.” Berlin is nevertheless holding Russia responsible—to justify massive spending on militarization in 2027. The drone, rigged with explosives, was discovered on the evening of August 4 in the security area of Leipzig/Halle Airport near a Ukrainian Antonov AN-124 cargo plane.
