The Left Party attracts more people than any other party in Saxony. According to the party leadership, this success is also linked to its grassroots efforts.

The Left Party in Saxony continues to gain support and now has more than 11,500 members. This makes it the largest party in Saxony, ahead of the CDU. According to the party headquarters, about 600 people have joined since the beginning of the year. The average age of members is 43.5 years. About half (49.2 percent) are male. At the end of 2024, membership stood at around 6,900.

Party leader Böhme: Surge in Membership Not a One-Time Fad

“Our surge in membership was not a one-time fad. The Left has come back to stay. We remain the party with the largest membership in Saxony,” explained party chairman Marco Böhme. The party intends to use this strength to fight for a social and just Saxony. “Good, secure jobs, housing without rip-offs, and a weekly grocery shopping trip that doesn’t drive you into bankruptcy—these are not too much to ask. We want to continue to demand these things loudly and collectively.”

Chairwoman Praises New Members’ Commitment

According to Co-Chair Anja Eichhorn, the members who joined last year have found their place in the party. The new members are active and helping to shape the party. “They organize community kitchens, outreach sessions, door-to-door conversations, demonstrations, neighborhood assistance, and much more. Wherever we go in Saxony, we notice: Right now, Saxony needs a strong social party.”

As early as the beginning of the year, The Left was in the lead with more than 11,000 members. The CDU had 8,700 members. The Greens ranked third (just over 5,300 members). Behind them were the SPD (4,500) and the AfD (4,400). Sahra Wagenknecht’s Alliance had 553 members.

In the 2024 state election, The Left received only 4.5 percent of the second votes. However, since they won two direct mandates in Leipzig, they were able to enter the state parliament as a caucus with six representatives.
