Saxony-Anhalt's CDU state leader Sven Schulze has ruled out a coalition with the AfD after next year's state elections. "I am very clear on this: we will not form a coalition or work together with the AfD after the state elections. There will be no discussions about this at all," Schulze told the "Leipziger Volkszeitung" newspaper.
The CDU politician announced that he wanted to take up issues of interest to AfD voters more strongly. "We must not ignore them. My aim is to win back all those who used to vote CDU," said the 46-year-old. He is Minister of Economic Affairs in Saxony-Anhalt and has been put forward as the CDU's top candidate for the 2026 state elections.
"We are a stable country and we want to remain a stable country. This is not possible with a party like the AfD, whose sole interest is to destabilize the country," said Schulze. This also applies to parties on the far left. "We need an alliance of the center, led by the CDU. That's what I stand for, and that's what I'm campaigning for."
