Saxony's Interior Minister Schuster views the new deportation rules for Afghanistan as an important step. He is counting on consistent deportations via Leipzig-Halle Airport.

Saxony’s Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) believes that the expanded options for deporting rejected asylum seekers to Afghanistan are the right approach. Schuster told the German Press Agency that this represents a decisive step forward for the federal government in terms of repatriation.

“We have so far focused on serious criminals, but due to the ongoing nature of the situation, we will now expand the scope to include all criminals as well as those required to leave the country who have not yet demonstrated any effort toward integration, are receiving social benefits, or are not cooperating in the process of verifying their identity,” Schuster said.

Schuster added that the government also intends to continue the practice of handling repatriation flights via Leipzig-Halle Airport. The federal government had previously paved the way for more deportations to Afghanistan.
