From 2026, people with higher incomes in Saxony can also hope to receive a housing entitlement certificate. What limits will apply to singles, couples and families in future.

In future, more people in Saxony will be entitled to subsidized housing. The income threshold for a so-called Wohnberechtigungsschein (WBS) will be significantly increased from January 2026, as announced by the Saxon Ministry of Infrastructure. "Social housing should be effective, even in the middle of society," said Infrastructure Minister Regina Kraushaar (CDU) according to the press release.

For a one-person household, the income threshold will rise from 16,800 to 20,520 euros gross from next year, according to the ministry. For a two-person household, the limit will be raised from 25,200 to 30,780 euros. In future, an additional 7,011 euros would be added for each additional person and an additional 855 euros per child.

Kraushaar: Opening up access for more households

According to the ministry, Kraushaar signed a corresponding ordinance on Tuesday to raise the income limits. "We are thus opening up access to subsidized housing for more households who need it," said Kraushaar.

According to the ministry, the minimum wage and its development up to 2027 were also taken into account when calculating the new limit. With a WBS, tenants are entitled to social housing.
