Complaints about data protection and data breaches reached a new high in Saxony last year. The protection of privacy is more important than ever to citizens, said Juliane Hundert, the state's data protection commissioner, at the presentation of her annual report in Dresden. In total, more than 1,600 complaints were submitted, 29 percent more than in the previous year.
Citizens use AI to make complaints
Hundert attributes the sharp increase in complaints to artificial intelligence. With the help of chatbots, those affected are more likely to contact the relevant authorities. AI also speeds up the creation of a letter. However, the quality of the submissions does not increase.
The data protection officers also reported around 900 consultations, an increase of 22 percent compared to the previous year. There was also a record number of data breaches. Here, 1,058 incidents were reported.
The most common mishaps included the misplacement and loss of data in the post, open email distribution lists, hacking, malicious code, burglary and theft.
