The Saxon government plans to promote Europe in the state parliament on Wednesday (starting at 10:00 a.m.). State Chancellery Chief Andreas Handschuh (independent) has titled his policy statement “Saxony for a Strong Europe—for More Freedom and Personal Responsibility.” In its latest public opinion survey, the “Sachsen-Monitor,” the government also asked citizens about their trust in the European Parliament and the European Commission. 42 percent of those surveyed have little trust in the Parliament, and 32 percent have none at all. In the case of the Commission, the figures are 43 and 32 percent, respectively. At the request of the AfD, the Parliament’s Current Affairs Agenda will focus on the Beutelsbach Consensus—an agreement on political education in Germany. The BSW intends to shed light on the financial situation of theaters and orchestras in Saxony. The SPD’s motion aims to protect critical infrastructure from sabotage and hybrid threats. Afterward, the state parliament will vote on, among other things, the Violence Assistance Act. The Free State of Saxony is thus one of the first federal states to implement the new federal regulations. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de).
