Alcohol consumption is no longer permitted on Marienplatz in Zwickau. Why the city enacted the ban.

An alcohol ban is now in effect in part of Zwickau’s Old Town. On Marienplatz and in the surrounding area, drinking alcohol is no longer permitted from Monday through Saturday between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Exceptions apply only to approved outdoor seating areas of restaurants and bars, according to the city administration. Violators face a fine of up to 5,000 euros.

The city justified the ban by citing problems on Marienplatz that had repeatedly occurred in recent months despite enforcement efforts. The Public Order Office will continue its operations there in cooperation with the police.
