The "chor.com" choir festival is moving to Leipzig in 2026 - supported by 240,000 euros from the Free State. Culture Minister Klepsch is hoping for long-term effects.

The nationwide choral festival "chor.com" 2026 in Leipzig will receive 240,000 euros in funding from the Free State of Saxony. The money is earmarked for preparations this year and next, said Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU) following the cabinet meeting in Dresden. The festival will make it possible to bring an important specialist congress to Saxony.

10,000 visitors expected

Leipzig will be the new venue for "chor.com", which takes place every two years, from 2026. From October 1 to 4, around 200 workshops for vocal music and a forum with 80 exhibitors from all over Europe will take place in the Kongresshalle am Zoo. A concert program is planned for the evenings. 10,000 guests are expected. The German Choir Association has organized the festival every two years since 2011, first in Dortmund and since 2019 in Hanover.

Support after coronavirus

According to Klepsch, the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, from which the choirs suffered in particular, also played a role in the decision to support the festival. In this area in particular, it is important to be able to present yourself and recruit new members. Choirs are a living expression of social cohesion. "For me, this is very valuable and very, very well invested money," said Klepsch.

The minister expects lasting impulses for the choral landscape and ultimately also for tourism. "Because experience has shown that guests come back again." The event will further strengthen Leipzig's image as a city of music.
