Hamburg’s Finance Senator Andreas Dressel (SPD) has been reelected as chairman of the Association of State Finance Ministers (TdL). Dressel announced that the decision by the general assembly was unanimous. Saxony’s Finance Minister Christian Piwarz (CDU) and his counterpart from Schleswig-Holstein, Silke Schneider (Greens), were also reelected as first and second vice chairs, respectively. “We have grown together as a team in recent years,” Dressel explained. “For a public service capable of taking action, it is essential that the states have capable and motivated staff.” At the same time, he pointed to the extremely tight budgetary situation at the federal and state levels. “In this environment, all parties have a duty to advocate for sustainable and forward-looking solutions that also leave room for investment,” said Dressel. The TdL represents the employers of the federal states—with the exception of Hesse—in public sector collective bargaining negotiations.
