For women in Saxony, having children is no longer a natural part of planning for the future. This is the result of a study presented by the Federal Institute of Public Health (BIÖG) and the Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs. According to the study, only 57% of the women surveyed still see children as an integral part of their life plan. Twelve years ago, this was still a matter of course for 83 percent of women in Saxony.
Minister wants to create good conditions for starting a family
The reasons often given for postponing the desire to have children are worries about the current crises (31 percent), financial insecurity (30 percent) and the lack of a suitable partnership (30 percent).
"The results of the study show that women today plan their lives very individually and that children are no longer a matter of course when planning for the future," said Saxony's Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping. However, the SPD politician emphasized that it is important to her that young people look to the future with confidence and can imagine a life with children. "As a Free State, we will continue to offer the right conditions for starting a family."
