After legal disputes, thousands of people celebrated Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Dresden. "Everything went off without a hitch," reported a police spokesperson. In the afternoon, a counter-demonstration from the right-wing spectrum was registered, but away from the CSD - according to the police, no direct confrontation was therefore expected.
The colorful and loud hustle and bustle took place in initially slightly rainy, but warm summer weather. Organizers and police spoke of thousands of participants each.
The CSD commemorates the 1969 riots of the queer community on Christopher Street in New York City (USA). It is a day of celebration and remembrance for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans people and other queer people who stand up for visibility and equality.
