The first major heat wave of the year has just passed, and the organizer of two Dresden Christmas markets is already thinking about the Advent season—and starting the search for Christmas trees.

The organizer is looking for suitable Christmas trees for the Augustusmarkt and the Canalettomarkt in Dresden. According to Plan de Saxe GmbH, each tree should be a fir or a blue spruce that someone is willing to donate for free.

For the Canaletto Market, the tree should be 12 to 14 meters tall; for the Augustus Market, a “stately” specimen measuring 8 to 10 meters in height is sought. The trees should come from within a 20-kilometer radius of Dresden and be accessible by crane.

Even earlier than the two private Christmas markets, the city of Dresden has already begun its search for a tree for the Striezelmarkt. It put out a request for a suitable conifer as early as April. For Dresden’s most famous Christmas market, the tree must meet even higher standards: It must be at least 23 meters tall.
