For the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, it is a matter of the heart, for the members of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester an important experience: when musicians from both orchestras share the desks next Wednesday in Dresden's Kulturpalast, the response in the hall is likely to be particularly great. A program of key works from the Romantic period was selected for the joint performance, all of which are "hits" and already very popular.
Romantic hits in concert
Under the baton of South Korean Myung-Whun Chung - principal guest conductor of the Staatskapelle Dresden - the overture to the opera "Der Freischütz" by Carl Maria von Weber will be followed by Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor and Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World". The Schumann concerto will be performed by a shooting star of the classical music scene: Yunchan Lim. The South Korean is already an award-winner at the age of 21 and, according to experts, has a great career ahead of him. He will be performing with a German orchestra for the first time in Dresden.
