Another stele has been inaugurated on the planned Caspar David Friedrich Trail in Dresden. It is located at the Kügelgenhaus, the site of the Museum of Dresden Romanticism. According to Dresdner Romantik e.V., the stele is over two meters high and provides information about Caspar David Friedrich and his circle of friends, which included Gerhard von Kügelgen. His house was an important meeting place for the Dresden Romantics.
Friedrich, born in Greifswald in 1774, came to Dresden in 1798, mainly to study the works of art in the picture gallery. He began painting here in 1807 and became probably the most important artist of German Romanticism. He remained in the city on the Elbe until his death in May 1840 and wandered around the city's surroundings to be inspired by nature - all of his surviving paintings were created here. Among other things, Kügelgen was a professor at the Dresden Academy of Art.
The planned circular route through Dresden is to include 15 stations, with the stele that has now been inaugurated being the fifth station. According to current plans, the circular route could be completed in 2029.
