Baroque walls, dancing crowd: Purple Disco Machine brings funk and house to the newly renovated inner courtyard of the baroque building in the heart of its home town.

Electronic beats meet baroque: Dresden DJ Purple Disco Machine inaugurated the reopened Zwingerhof as an event venue with a concert in front of thousands of fans.

In front of the façade bathed in purple light and a giant disco ball in the crown gate, 9,000 visitors celebrated to his danceable mix of funk, house and disco. In addition to popular classics, the Dresden native introduced his audience to new tracks. He also had special surprises in store for the performance in the heart of his home city. For example, the water features in the fountains of the garden ensemble repeatedly danced to the beat.

"It's an honor to celebrate my hometown in such a special way and to perform in this setting," said the internationally acclaimed Dresden DJ and producer Tino Piontek alias Purple Disco Machine in advance. The Grammy winner will be performing three more times in front of the baroque backdrop until May 25. The rush for tickets was huge: the first three dates were completely sold out just a few minutes after the announcement. There will therefore be an additional show on Whit Monday - for which there are also no more tickets available. A total of 39,000 people will now be celebrating in the Zwingerhof over the Whitsun weekend.

The Zwingerhof was renovated for more than four and a half years

The Zwinger is one of the most important European baroque buildings and is one of Dresden's most popular sights with four to five million visitors a year. After more than four and a half years of renovation, the inner courtyard was reopened in October.

The Zwinger was already home to lavish celebrations in the 18th century: Elector Augustus the Strong (1670-1733) had it built as an orangery and festival site. The ensemble was inaugurated in 1719 for the wedding of Elector Friedrich August and the Emperor's daughter Maria Josepha. During the renovation, the inner courtyard was given the technical requirements to be able to serve as an event venue again today.
