The last big mining parade of the year passed through Annaberg-Buchholz in mild weather. The streets were densely lined with spectators as the miners', smelters' and miners' associations paraded through the Erzgebirge town in their uniforms. The mining parade in Annaberg-Buchholz traditionally marks the end of the mining parades during the Christmas period.
Around 1,100 people in traditional costume take part in the mining parade
According to the town council, more than 1,100 people in traditional costume took part this year. This included around 300 mountain musicians. The traditional highlight is the singing of the miners' song. The miners' anthem was declared an intangible cultural heritage in 2023.
The weather was very mild for a fourth Advent. Temperatures were in the plus range. At the start of the mining parade in the early afternoon, the sun was shining in Annaberg-Buchholz.
The mining parades have been around since the 17th century. Miners' music societies traditionally take part. The mountain parades and mountain processions in Saxony have been part of Germany's intangible cultural heritage since 2016.
