Those wishing to visit Dresden's town hall tower after twelve years of closure can now book appointments. The guided tours for groups of up to five people will take place regularly from July 1 on Thursdays to Mondays at 3 pm, 4 pm and 5 pm, as announced by the city. There are also special offers such as a tour with a historically dressed tower keeper or photo sessions.
Admission costs a regular nine euros, reduced admission six euros. Children under the age of six visit the tower free of charge. Bookings can be made online on the city portal or by telephone. The ascent is not barrier-free. After an elevator ride to the fourth floor, you climb 270 steps in a narrow spiral staircase to the viewing platform.
The tower of the New Town Hall was built between 1905 and 1910 and, at around 100 meters, is the tallest building in the city centre. The viewing platform at a height of 68 meters offers a view of the rooftops of Dresden, and in good weather the view extends as far as the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
Twelve years ago, the viewing platform had to close because there was no escape route. The concept for the reopening was developed by the Office for Building Construction and Real Estate Management together with the building inspectorate and the fire department. This is initially a test operation that will last until October 31.
